About Us

Who is an Arborist?

An arborist is a specialized tradesperson trained in the care of trees.  Arborists work around the world to help trees live better, and manage forests in urban & rural settings.  Arborists play a vital role in managing trees to ensure that people can live in harmony with these amazing woody plants that we need to live.  Triple A Tree is pleased to be based in both Canmore, AB and Golden, BC: serving the Canadian Rockies and beyond.  We have worked jobs in Bragg Creek, Brisco, Calgary, Canmore, Cochrane, Elkford, Fernie, Field, Golden, Invermere, Kananaskis, Kaslo, Lake Louise, Millarville, Nordegg, Radium Hot Springs, and Red Deer.  We will bid on and travel to jobs anywhere within a 500+ km radius; reasonable travel rates may apply.

At Triple A Tree we are passionate about trees and wild spaces, and sustainably managing both for future generations.

So what the heck does Triple 'A' do?

Danger Tree Assessment/Removal

Danger Tree Assessment/Removal

Danger Tree Assessment/Removal

We evaluate trees near to your home that have an imminent threat to your property, your house, or your neighbours.  Big or small, we assess, climb, & cut them all.  Technical rope rigging and dismantling the tree down in tight quarters - with safety at the top of our minds, on every last job.

Pruning and Shaping

Danger Tree Assessment/Removal

Danger Tree Assessment/Removal

Mega maple pruning in Golden

Urban trees need to be pruned.  Ideally at a young age and over several seasons to ensure maximum vitality and desired growth shape.  Pruning removes dead wood, increases airflow, gives more sun to your yard, reduces threat to your home in a storm, and stimulates new growth.

Hauling & Dumping

Danger Tree Assessment/Removal

Storm Clean-up & Urgent Call-outs

Remember that huge pile of old branches from last summer that your partner has been nagging you all year to dispose of?  Maybe a landscaping project needs some mulch or topsoil delivered?  Perhaps you just have some junk that needs to hit the dump!  Whatever it is, our 14x7 Load Trail heavy duty dump trailer is up to the task.

Storm Clean-up & Urgent Call-outs

Contract climbing & rigging for tree companies

Storm Clean-up & Urgent Call-outs

Ouch!

No one wants this to happen, but Mother Nature is a cruel mistress at times.  We will clean up storm damage and pull trees off your house whilst minimizing any additional damage to your property.  We can even put you in touch with a good roofing crew.

New plantings / Landscape design

Contract climbing & rigging for tree companies

Want to plant a new tree but not sure what or where on your property?  We'll help select the site, species, and size that is best for you!  Learn to pick out healthy saplings with a strong apical leader that will produce a healthy adult tree.  Triple A recommends all tree planting occur in the spring, and shall only offer warranty on trees planted before July 1st of each year.

TESTIMONIALS...

Here's what some of our customers had to say....

"Quality work with no compromise in safety. Very impressed with the quick work Andy and Henry made of two mature 60-70ft+ Douglas Fir trees.

Highly recommended!"

-Sheldon, Golden BC

"Excellent job. Reliable, and professional. Easy to work with. We took down 6 miserable trees. Highly recommend this crew."

- Mike & Elaine, Spillimacheen, BC

"So happy that Andy has moved into town and is taking care of all the forlorn trees out there (including ours). Great job in trimming our crazy maple/willow and taking down the 60' tall spruce tree. See you again next year for the backyard trees..."

- Brenda, Golden, BC

"Strongly recommended! Triple A was recommended to me via word of mouth here in Golden. Andy promptly came and give me a reasonable quote and then scheduled the work for the following week. He did a great job on a number of trees for me including the removal of two large trees close to the house. The customer service and professionalism inspired confidence that was well deserved."

- Ben - Golden, BC

"Andy is an educated and safe working arborist that is a pleasure to work with."

- Rob, SOLKOR contracting, Canmore, AB

"Triple A changed the entire feel of my backyard! They explained why my trees needed to be manicured in a particular fashion to maintain the integrity and vitality of the tree while allowing more natural light into my space. I was given realistic expectations of how the trees would look within that summer as well as moving forward. I would recommend them based on the quality of service, the speed of labor and the competitive prices!"

- Kendra - Canmore, AB

"Andy thanks for your work at our campground and race site in 2017. You were great to work with and made short work falling some complicated danger trees."

- Chuck - Alberta Whitewater Association, Kananaskis, AB

"I hired Andy to take care of a couple big trees near my house - the kind that I was not comfortable falling myself! He was very professional, friendly and helpful. He did a great job, and for a very reasonable price. I highly recommend his services."

- Jason - Golden, BC

"They are very reputable. I used their services last fall and was extremely pleased with their work. They left the yard well cleaned and bucked the fallen trees to requested length and stacked them in a neat tidy pile."

- Doedy - Radium HotSprings, BC

"Andy pruned our big tree as well as a few small ones, removed a few unruly shrubs and gave us great advice on looking after the trees in our yard.  He was efficient and hard working and took care of cleaning up all the branches afterwards.  One of our trees in particular is so beautiful now, it's really gracefully shaped and it was one we were thinking of taking out.  I can't wait to watch it grow over the next few years.  We highly recommend Andy at Triple A Tree Services."

- Alanna & Scott - Cochrane, AB

"It was a pleasure to have Triple A Tree Services help us remove problem trees in our yard.  We had a large tree that was threatening our house and the neighbours on either side.  I’m a DIY person and not quick to hire people to come do work that I think I can do on my own, but even I recognized that this was out of my league.  Triple A Tree services' in depth knowledge of arborist techniques allowed them to remove my tree promptly, safely, and eliminated the risk of damage to property.  They made the process painless for me and left the yard cleaner than when they arrived.  I will happily bring them back for any future arborist needs."

- Chris & Darcie-Lyn - Golden, BC

"Triple A Tree completely removed  three problem trees and pruned four others; reducing obstructions in an efficient, safe and professional manner at a cost affordable for our not-for–profit organization. Best of all, when completed, the site was fully cleaned, leaving no residue or incomplete work to burden our dedicated staff and volunteers. Much appreciation for a good job, well done!"

- Jim - Deer Park United Church, Calgary, AB

"We would highly recommend Andrew and his crew. Very professional, safe, and did an amazing job of clean up! Thank you again! "

- J & B - Cochrane, AB

"Great to deal with and got my trees taken down quickly and for the quoted price! Price was more reasonable than the other companies I called."

- Johnathan - Exshaw, AB

"Andy, Maarten and Austin did an excellent job for us taking down several dead and problem trees. They also removed an old rotten woodpile and left the place looking better than ever. Would not hesitate recommending these guys for jobs in the Bow Valley or Golden area."

- Graeme - Canmore, AB

"Andy and Maarten were very prompt, on time, and ready to work.  They made great suggestions but followed my tree pruning vision.  They were easy to negotiate with and very accurate with their estimate.  They worked very hard and even blew all the needles off my roof when done.  I highly recommend their professional service(s)."

-Usri, Banff - AB

"Reliable and knowledgeable. We found having Triple A Tree look after some very large fir trees a very satisfying experience and have hired them repeatedly.  Highly recommended."

- Juanita - Invermere, BC

"Andrew is great.  He is very knowledgeable, and took the time to explain to me (as a customer) what should be done.  I was clear where my cash was being spent.  He also took the time and trouble to follow up on the work, not to mention deal with all of the red tape that was involved as my property is in Banff and the National Park."

- Suzanne - Banff, AB

"Triple A Tree Service is very professional and puts the effort to ensuring the job is done safely and efficiently."

- Lisa - Sullivan Tree Services, Calgary, AB

OUR PEOPLE ... OUR best assets

Bas Duminy

Mathieu Bourgeois

Bas Duminy

Bas is a past full time, now part time crew member in the Columbia Valley.  Bas has a deep passion for building bike trails, fixing bikes, and making the wood chips fly on big timber.  He is an experienced  rigger on mountain industrial projects - installing lift towers and other big heavy things.  We are stoked to have him on the team.  A long time Golden local but Quebecois transplant, Bas crushes tree work as hard as he crushes steep bike trails.  We'd love if he quit his other job and came to climb trees with us.

Henry Cobb

Mathieu Bourgeois

Bas Duminy

Crew member.  Henry is our lead hand in the Columbia valley.  Living in Golden the past 10 years, he is an experienced brusher, ski-run glader, and wild-land firefighter. Henry is an apprentice BC ticketed tree faller, and is working towards his full certification.  He is stoked to add tree climbing to his resume, and we are happy to have him.  Henry loves skiing and coaching at Kicking Horse Mountain, and sending it in the backcountry with his homies, often whilst ski-jouring behind his sled dogs.

Mathieu Bourgeois

Mathieu Bourgeois

Mathieu Bourgeois

Lead crew member and apprentice climber.  Mat is our newest apprentice arborist.  Joining us from Quebec by way of Fernie, Mat is learning the ropes and sending trees left and right.  Mat moved to Golden because he heard how awesome the skiing and biking was.  A real go getter, he sought out an apprenticeship at Triple A Tree.  Mat is a master of trailer life, and is custom modifying his own tiny home.  When not up a tree you may find him peddling his bike up, riding it down, or climbing some rocks near you.

Austin Goodine

Austin Goodine

Mathieu Bourgeois

Climbing arborist.  Austin hails from the vast tree & river filled land that is Edmonton.  A ski patroller in winter, Austin spends much of his time climbing and skiing in the mighty Rockies.  A talented rock climber, he now crushes routes of all kinds, and is a certified apprentice rock guide.  A man of few words, Austin will impress you with his  fluid movement and his  ninja-like rope tricks whilst climbing trees or mountains.  Austin has also served on Alberta Wildfire, taking his chainsaw skills to the next level.

Gregg Bridgeo

Austin Goodine

Gregg Bridgeo

Gregg is our newest crew member on the east side of the Rockies.  We mostly hired him for his superior reaching ability. Then we found his laid back, charming yet hard working and customer-focused attitude was a great fit for Triple A . When not learning the tree life ropes, Gregg can be found slaying waves in his kayak on local rivers, and supervising the terrain park at Marmot Basin once the snow flies.

Liam Adamson

Austin Goodine

Gregg Bridgeo

Crew member.  Liam loves trees, classical piano, cats, fencing, and on-line gaming of various kinds.   He serves  us with his strong ground-man (groundie) skills  on jobs in Calgary and area.  Liam always shows up on time, works hard, and often entertains us with his eclectic commentary on the art of piano tuning or his favourite cat food.  What can we say?  If you love trees as much as we do, you might be kinda weird.  Liam is faithfully mastering the clove hitch, Yosemite bowline, and alpine butterfly - our favourite knots.

Maarten Van Haeren

Maarten Van Haeren

Maarten Van Haeren

Crew leader.  Maarten is a dynamic red-haired Dutchman that hangs his hat in the quiet Rockies hamlet of Exshaw.  He climbs ice, rocks, and trees heinously hard, usually with an infectious grin on his face.  When he finds time from his busy alpine and rock guiding schedule, Maarten can be found climbing up some trees with us.  Maarten holds a post-secondary certificate in Forest and Nature Management from the Netherlands.   Once Maarten discovered how much fun climbing trees with a chainsaws is, he threatened to give up rock climbing.  Where's the follow through, Maarten?

Andy Adamson

Maarten Van Haeren

Maarten Van Haeren

Owner Operator.  Andy has been a lover of trees since a young age, growing up in the Rockies.  He learned to cut wood in the beautiful back lands of David Thompson Country, Alberta.  For eighteen years he has served various forestry operations in Alberta & BC; working hard as a tree-planter, log peeler, trail builder, machine operator, pile burner, hut builder, wild-land & mountain firefighter, ski-run glader, tree faller, arborist, wilderness guide, and all-star bushwhacker.  Andy has been an avid rock and ice climber since his youth, and has found magic in combining these two skill sets.  He loves delivering great customer service, working with folks that give 'er, and going on adventures in the mountains with rad people.

Henry Barrett

Maarten Van Haeren

Sasha Yasinski

Sub-contractor. 'Henners' is a true woodsman: hailing from Fernie, BC, he co-founded BackCountry Trail Experts, a professional & legendary trail building company.  Triple A often calls on Henry for his advanced tree falling skills; his ingenuity and hard work is un-matched in the woods or on the trail.  When not falling massive trees or pack-rafting with his mountain bike, Henry can be found free-heeling huge lines in Alaska or shredding local bike trails, maybe somewhere near you.

Sasha Yasinski

Tristan Berendt

Sasha Yasinski

Crew member.  From the tree-laden lands of Ontario, Sasha came west in search of tree-laden mountains, and she found them.  Sasha joined us a couple years back and we love her zesty hard-work and sassy quips.  She is apprenticing part-time for Triple A whilst serving the public good full-time as a professional member of the Parks Canada wild-fire management team.  Sasha keeps busy climbing rocks around the world, so it's usually hard to find her and get her up a tree.

Tristan Berendt

Tristan Berendt

Tristan Berendt

Crew member.  Tristan is a young local Canmore crusher, when he isn't helping us out he's usually sending 5.12's in Echo canyon, or falling tree for the Alpine Club at BC huts.  Tristan is a certified chainsaw operator and is also apprenticing as a climbing arborist.  In winter he works as a professional ski coach for aspiring young athletes in the Bow Valley, inspiring the youth to ski fast and have fun.  We are stoked whenever Tristan floats some Bow Valley connections our way.

Alex Rougeau

Tristan Berendt

Tristan Berendt

Crew member.  A hard-working member of the Sunshine Village Snow Safety team, Alex is a smooth and confident climber and saw operator.  Alex has worked brushing and glading operations for ski areas, and is stoked to advance his skills in urban and wild-land forestry.  We are happy to have him on the team occasionally but now that he is apprenticing to be a helicopter pilot, he is hard to keep on the ground.
